We are thrilled to have David Rubin, MD on board as an Advisor to WellApps. When I first met Dr. Rubin last month, I was extremely impressed with his grasp on the potential for interactive health applications. I knew that Dr. Rubin is a very well respected physician who conducts extensive clinical research related to outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease, but I didn’t know how technically savvy he is. Dr. Rubin has 2 iPads! I don’t even have 2 iPads and I develop iOS applications. He also happens to be a great guy and we’re extremely excited to have access to his expertise as we continue development of GI Monitor to improve patient quality-of-life. His bio is below and you can follow him on Twitter @ibdmd

Dr. Rubin is Associate Professor of Medicine, Co-Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, and Director of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition fellowship program at the University of Chicago (UC). This WSJ video presents a pretty good overview of what some patients are doing to take control of their health. In this rapidly evolving era of consumer health, its super important that neither the patient nor the doctor sees the "Health Hacker" model as trumping the guidance of an educated health care provider. The right model is a partnership between data collection and data analysis.

by Brett Shamosh Entrepreneurship is hard. All those blog posts you read about the ups and downs are absolutely true. But so are the parts about affecting change and disrupting conventional workflows. And that’s what makes me smile every morning when I look at my Socialize feed in GI Monitor and see things like “My GI recommended it” and “my nurse suggested this app”.
